Beaujolais

Beaujolais is a natural region renowned worldwide for its "Beaujolais Nouveau", but who can claim to really know the Beaujolais mountains?

The western slope, known as the Beaujolais Vert, is a mid-mountain forest and farming area, while the majority of the population lives on the eastern side of the massif. The eastern slopes are devoted to vineyards.

The rich history of Beaujolais, an ancient barony whose capital was Beaujeu, is based on the personality of Anne de Beaujeu, who served as regent to her brother, Charles VIII, from 1483 to 1491. Beaujeu is often referred to as the "Capital of Beaujolais" for its historic role in the development of the wine region.

The vineyards are divided between twelve AOCs: two generic appellations (Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages) and ten crus (Morgon, Régnié, Moulin-à-Vent, Côte-de-Brouilly, Brouilly, Juliénas, Saint-Amour, Chénas, Chiroubles and Fleurie).

To the souththe "Pays des pierres dorées" brings together some forty French communes. These magnificent villages of yellow Beaujolais, some of them perched on a hilltop, they offer breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains. Their cobbled streets, golden stone buildings (houses, churches, castles...) give them an incomparable charm.
